Chapter 3.1 Notes
Ecosystems change over time. Rock ---changes--> ecosystem.
Mechanisms of change: evolution, geographical change (erosion).
An example of change: Galapagos Islands are 600 km from the nearest coast. They are volcanic islands. 
Island ---long-time--> (erosion occurs over time) (substrate of sand provides place for roots to dig in) (wind carries seeds and some (by sheer chance) fall on the island) (they grow, re-seed, die, decompose, grow) (creates soil, which becomes filled with nutrients)
